Bring Russia back into G7 says Trump

On the South Lawn of the White House before leaving for the G7 summit in Quebec, President Donald Trump suggested bringing Russia back into the G7. Russia was ousted from the group after it annexed Crimea forcefully from Ukraine in 2014. Prime Minister of the UK, Theresa May, stated at the summit that we all know why the G8 became the G7 and Russia will not be included as long as it does not agree to mend its ways. Mr. Trump wondered why the G7 summit was happening without the inclusion of Russia. He also added that he has been the worst nightmare for Russia; However, Russia being a key international player, needs to be at the summit. The new Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, stated that it would be in the best interest of everyone to reinstate Russia into the G7.

In suggesting such an action. Mr. Trump has sparked a fresh rift with the allies of the United States. Mr. Trump has already contradicted them on the imposition of tariffs and climate change. Although the greetings and smiles at the first day of summit told a different story, by the end of the day Mr. Trump still had differences on policy towards relations with Moscow, climate change, and trade. President Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, stated in a Russian television interview that a constructive dialogue could be held with Mr. Trump. He further asserted that President Trump listens to people and knows how to respond to people.
