Broadway to Welcome a new Michael Jackson musical in 2020

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it Broadway

Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage have announced that a musical inspired by the sensational life of King of Pop, Michael Jackson, featuring his extensive catalogue of songs, is all set to hit Broadway in 2020.

Though the cast and title of the musical are not decided yet, it will be written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Playwright Lynn Nottage and Tony award winner Christopher Wheeldon is signed to direct and choreograph this anticipated musical.

Michael Jackson is a 13-times Grammy winner music sensation who took the pop world by storm in 1982 when he released his super-hit song ‘Thriller’. Besides legendary contribution in music, this man’s life has many hidden grooves that make his life perfect for the musical play.

Nottage has penned many award-winning plays like Sweat, By The Way, Meet Vera Stark and Intimate Apparel etc., and Wheeldon has directed-choreographed several Tony award-winning play ‘An American in Paris’ on Broadway. So, the association of these acknowledged people in the production of this musical has raised the expectations of the people, but it is yet to be revealed that will the involvement of Michael Jackson Estate stop the portrayal of the controversial aspects of Jackson’s life in musical or not.

The announced musical will be a third stage play based on the life of the singer – the other plays include Michael Jackson One, which is showcased in Las Vegas, and Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour.  Another show is Thriller Live which runs in West End London.
