Court orders Meesha Shafi to reply to Ali Zafar's defamation suit

LAHORE: A sessions court in Lahore on Thursday once again asked Singer-cum-actor Meesha Shafi  was once again asked by the session court in Lahore to submit reply to  Rs 1 billion defamation case filed against by Ali Zafar.

Court’s notice seeking her reply was ordered to be posted outside her residence since Meesha Shafi failed to submit her reply amid the orders by Additional Judge.

The deadline to submit reply  has been  extended till August 13 .

During the hearing, Ali told court, “Meesha levelled false allegations of harassment against me for publicity.”

“My name has been tainted worldwide owing to her false allegations,” the singer-cum-actor added.

The singer turned actor who has earned massive following in Bollywood through his major role in the movies further requested the court to direct Meesha to pay Rs1 billion in defamation.

The sessions court  asked Meesha to submit a reply in the case  by July 5 earlier during hearing on June 25.

Last month, Ali submitted a defamation suit to a district court against Meesha.

Defamation Ordinance 2002. was invoked in the suit claiming Rs 1 Billion damages claim.

Earlier Meesha Shafi took to Twitter to publicly accuse Ali Zafar of physically harassing her on "more than one occasion" with #MeToo

“This happened to me despite the fact I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind!" her statement had read.

The famed actor on the contrary, had "categorically" denied and distanced himself from all the allegations and threatened to take legal action against the actress.

"I intend to take this through the courts of law, and to address this professionally and seriously rather than to lodge any accusations here," the singer had said on Twitter.
