Fashion Designer, Kate Spade, was found dead in her New York City home on Tuesday, according to the international press. Initial police reports claim Kate’s death to be suicide case.
According to New York press reports, Kate hanged herself and was found in the said position by her house keeper at her apartment on Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The New York Police Department has confirmed the 55-year-old's death. The deceased designer has left behind a note but the police refused to talk about its contents.
Kate was a co-founder of the designer label Kate Spade New York, which she later sold. She launched her design company in 1993. The company began by selling handbags but later expanded to include clothing, perfumes and accessories.
Tapestry Inc, the handbag company formerly known as Coach, bought Kate Spade in May 2017.
Kate Spade New York has over 140 retail stores across the United States and more than 175 shops internationally, according to the company’s website.
Earlier Kate was the accessories editor at the now-closed Mademoiselle magazine.
The world of fashion is mourning Kate’s death and paying tribute to her work. Her birth name was Katherine Noel Brosnahan.
