SYDNEY: The most wanted Monster crocodile weighing 600 kilograms (1,328 pounds) was finally caught after an eight-year hunt in Australia, officials said on Tuesday. This 4.7 metre giant was trapped in the downstream of the Katherine River after first being seen in 2010.
Authorities have tried different ways to trap and bag the crocodile which is expected to be 60 years old.
"We’ve called it a lot of things over the years because it’s been so hard to catch,"
"It is a bit of a thrill, but you’ve also got to admire the size of the animal and how old it is. You’ve got to have a bit of respect for it." said senior wildlife Officer John Burke.
Saltwater crocodiles have killed an average of 2 people a year and have been a common feature of the Australian tropical life.
It has been trapped away from the human population in a crocodile farm. The numbers of these previously declared protected species have exploded since the past few years followed by many deaths, which led to authorities planning to decrease their numbers.
