Husband reveals Kate Spade was undergoing treatment for depression

World renowned fashion designer Kate Spade, who apparently committed suicide, this week, was suffering from depression and anxiety and undergoing treatment for the said mental diseases for five years according to her husband’s statement.

“She was actively seeking help for depression and anxiety over the last five years, seeing a doctor on a regular basis and taking medication for both depression and anxiety,” her husband Andy Spade said while talking to international media about Kate’s unfortunate death.

However, contrary to Andy Spade’s statement, a celebrity news website states that the deceased designer went into depression after her husband left her and was seeking divorce.

Kate’s husband said that the couple had been living apart but were not legally separated and their daughter Bea was their priority.

“Our daughter was our priority. We were not legally separated, and never even discussed divorce. We were best friends trying to work through our problems in the best way we knew how. We were together for 35 years. We loved each other very much and simply needed a break,” Andy Spade added.

Andy further added: “There was no substance or alcohol abuse. There were no business problems. We loved creating our businesses together. We were co-parenting our beautiful daughter.”

Kate was found dead by her house keeper in her New York City home this week.

Kate was a co-founder of the designer label Kate Spade New York, which she later sold. She launched her design company in 1993. The company began by selling handbags but later expanded to include clothing, perfumes and accessories.

Tapestry Inc, the handbag company formerly known as Coach, bought Kate Spade in May 2017.

Kate Spade New York has over 140 retail stores across the United States and more than 175 shops internationally, according to the company’s website.

Earlier Kate was the accessories editor at the now-closed Mademoiselle magazine.

The world of fashion is mourning Kate’s death and paying tribute to her work. Her birth name was Katherine Noel Brosnahan.
