Kim arrives in Singapore for the historic meeting with Trump

Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, arrived in Singapore for the summit with President Donald Trump. Earlier Mr. Trump asserted that the North Korean leader had a one-time opportunity to save his country from crippling sanctions. Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs, greeted Kim on his arrival at Singapore's Changi airport. Kim arrived on an Air China plane according to the pictures released by the government of Singapore. He was accompanied by Kim Yong Chol who delivered a letter from Kim to Donald Trump earlier this month. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, is scheduled to meet with Kim later on Sunday. Prime Minister Lee will also have a separate meeting with President Trump on Monday. President has been positive about the summit with Kim in Singapore and regards Kim as being thoughtful and caring for his people by opting for the meeting.

US representatives have drafted up a schedule for the second day of talks provided the meeting on 12th June has some positive direction. Mr. Trump knows that the meeting might be a failure and he has asserted that he will know about it in the first few minutes. For Singapore, the cost of the summit has been $15 million. Prime Minister Lee has stated that it is in the profound interest of Singapore to be a part of the international endeavor for peace. US officials have been traveling to the demilitarized zone in South Korea to meet with North Korean officials regarding the meeting. Earlier in January this year, Kim through diplomatic means agreed to some aspects of the US and South Korea's military alliance. Moon Jae-in, President of South Korea, stated that Kim gave up on the precondition that US troops to leave South Korea as the basis for denuclearization. However, questions arise on whether Kim will agree to fully abandon the nuclear program and allow independent experts to check every site that might have been involved in the program. Before the G7 summit, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Washington to ensure that Japanese interests were met in the summit with Kim Jong Un.
