Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's daughter aims to launch father's unsung tunes

LAHORE - Nida Nusrat, the daughter of legendary singer and qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan says she is planning to launch her father's unsung tunes claiming herself to be the rightful heir.

After Nusrat Fateh Khan's demise in 1997, her wife Naheed Nusrat and daughter Nida Nusrat moved to Canada to never come back.

But after 20 years of absence, when everybody here has forgotten about the two, Nida announced her return via a press conference in Lahore.

In the press conference, she announced to take action against anyone who used her father's work without permission.

“Everyone, including Rahat, who tried to benefit from my father’s music, will be held accountable. I am determined to fight this battle alone.”

The announcement seemed to send renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to discomfort zone, who immediately responded with this statement, "I'm the successor of late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, thus I don't require anyone's permission to sing his songs."

In an interview with a local newspaper ExpressTribune, Nida told Tuesday that she has a collection of her father's unreleased tunes and that she aims to launch them soon.

"I have learnt a lot from my father, and I aim to promote his work that I have collected after the death of my mother. My father said that he has no objections if I ever like to work in the industry."
