Plans of Uranium Enrichment by Iran if nuclear deal fails

Iran says it will initiate the process of enrichment of uranium if the nuclear deal with the world power fails. According to Iran's atomic agency, it has started building the infrastructure at the Natanz facility to develop advanced centrifuges. The agency will also notify the United Nation's nuclear wing regarding the recent plan in a few days. Last month, President Trump removed the United States from the infamous nuclear deal, known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), between Iran and P5+1. Other world powers, especially France, criticized this move.

Ali Akbar Salehi, the chairman of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, stated that work is underway to develop new centrifuges. This will enable Iran to produce more uranium hexafluoride which is a vital component of the enrichment process. Mr. Salehi also asserted that the recent nuclear developments are being made on the orders of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. He further added that right now Iran is pursuing its nuclear program under the instructions of  JCPOA. Such a move by Iran shows that it has other options if the deal falls through.

The deal was signed with Germany, France, the UK, the US, China, and Russia. According to the deal, Iran was barred from enriching uranium to the weapons-grade level. Such a level is at 90 percent. Iran is only allowed to enrich uranium till 3.67 percent. The world powers provided a relief on sanctions that were crippling the economy of Iran. President Trump has always criticized that the nuclear deal does not go far enough to stop the nuclear ambitions of Iran. However, Iran proclaims that its nuclear program is peaceful and it is developed purely for energy needs.
