The State Bank of Pakistan has its own way of honoring the heroes of our nation. SBP had issued a 50 rupees coin to honor the memory of the Late Dr. Ruth Pfau.
An inauguration event was held in Karachi on May 9, 2018 at the State Office. The Governor of State Bank of Pakistan Tariq Bajwa and the German ambassador Martin Kobler were in attendance for this event.
The Governor of State Bank Pakistan and German ambassador both remembered the great Dr. Ruth at the event.
Governor SBP Tariq Bajwa said that it was indeed an honor for the State bank to be privileged enough to pay their respects to Dr. Ruth in this way. She had dedicated her life to serve humanity in Pakistan and this was the least we as a nation could give her back.
The German ambassador Martin Kobler also praised the tireless efforts of late Dr. Ruth to serve humanity. He spoke on behalf of the German community and thanked Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan for the honor.
Late Dr. Ruth Pfau was the founder of National leprosy control program in Pakistan. She set up various institutes where patients for leprosy are diagnosed and treat all across Pakistan from Gilgit to Karachi. She was a German national but spent her life in Pakistan serving the poor, needy and providing medical assistance to patients suffering from Leprosy. She had come to Pakistan in 1960 and served over 50,000 families till the time of her death. She left us in August 2017.
The 50 rupees coin that is silver in color and has an image of Dr. Ruth Pfau engraved over it is now available for the public usage.
