Theatre Wallay Breathing life into the theatre culture of Pakistan

Theatre Walay brought their latest production “Zard Paton Ka Ban” to Lahore. They performed at HRCP Auditorium in Garden Town for two days 21 st April – 22nd April. It was a theatrical performance with few outstanding performances by the actors based on experiences and perceptions of the public spaces and how they are becoming increasingly inaccessible due to various reasons. The show has been performed in Islamabad, Karachi and United States in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Artists Repertory Theatre Portland. After Lahore they are gearing up to perform in Peshawar. Inspired by Faiz’s poetry Theatre Wallay chose the subject of public places, “Zard Paton Ka Ban”, about Islamabad and how the spaces are changing and disappearing due to extremism and it needs to be reclaimed. “Zard Paton Ka Ban” revolves around the past and present of public places of Islamabad be it schools, squares, mosques, parks — spaces which were once intended for learning, leisure and worship and now have become places of terror in Pakistan. It also focuses on the fact that ordinary lives have been affected by the shift in lifestyle, some due to terrorism others due to urbanization without check and balance.
